Episode 3.7 - 11/9/07

Posted in Shows by geekmixtape on November 13th, 2007

Hello, boys and girls! This episode of Geek Mixtape is brought to you by the wonderful folks over at TUAW, who have managed to crack the new iPhone firmware mere *hours* after its release. I’m kidding of course… We don’t have any sponsors… because no one is actually listening. Regardless, I’m still shelling out considerable props to those fine folks because honestly, news of their exploits totally made my week. Anyway, yeah… I’m supposed to be talking about the show right? Well I did mention the Radiohead webcast, and I soon after discovered a few videos from the event, which Thom was calling “Thumbs_Down.” One them involved the band wearing cameras affixed to bicycle helmets. Trippy. I’ll be back next week, followed by a 2-week break for Thanksgiving and whatnot. See ya.

We’ve got more special segments than you can shake a stick at this week …and by that I mean two. But they are both very much full of awesome. First, an exclusive interview with Hiro from POLYSICS, a Japanese punk band that is so incredibly bizarre, I’d be doing this show a disservice by *not* interviewing them. Secondly, we have the triumphant return of last weeks Technology News segment. I’m debating whether or not to make this a weekly thing since I usually do the segment every week anyway for Fredonia Radio’s High Noon Friday. Any feedback on this matter would be appreciated. Additionally, I assure you that the new website is coming (relatively) soon. These past few weeks have been absolute hell and spare time has been sparse to say the least. Here’s hoping I survive midterms…

This week we have the much-anticipated Fredonia Radio premiere of the new Radiohead album! I’ve been waiting for this release for quite a while and now that it’s been out for a week or so, I offer you my thoughts on the album as well as a few of my favourite tracks. We also have another segment new to the show this week: A technology news report from yours truly. You can find this and many other great segments on Fredonia Radio’s very own variety news program, High Noon Friday. This weekly show, despite its misleading name, is on every Friday at noon, right here on Fredonia Radio Systems. Next week, you’d better tune in because I will have an exclusive interview with Hiro from the infamously awesome J-Rock band, POLYSICS! Until then, don’t die… (Seriously, don’t… I only have like, 6 listeners).

Joined at the mic this week by DJ Fusion, co-host of The Good-Good Radio Show on WCVF. If you’re a fan of old-school or underground hip-hop, I highly recommend tuning in Wednesdays at 6 PM. Anyway, you may be wondering about the iTunes listing. Well, that’s pretty much… not happening. I’ve re-written the RSS script about a dozen times now and iTunes continues to reject the feed, offering me no hint as to what the problem might be. So screw them! I’ve been working on a Geek Mixtape website which will have a blog, RSS feed, and archived episodes for your downloading pleasure. Much better than crummy old iTunes! I’ll have an update on the progress of that next week. For now, even though the show isn’t being listed in the store, you can still subscribe to the podcast in iTunes by clicking Advanced>>Subscribe to Podcast and typing in the following URL:

Veteran fans of the show are probably wondering at this point: “When did this become a dance music show?” My answer to this inquiry is …Well, I dunno. It just so happens the past few weeks have been party mixes for the most part. I’m going to change it up a little bit soon enough to include some of the more ‘out there’ stuff that veteran listeners have been hearing in previous seasons of the show. Stay tuned and keep it geeky.

Lock-down! Today there was a bomb scare in Fredonia. But as we all know, if we were to let something like that frighten us into not having another episode of Geek Mixtape, the terrorists would win! It is therefore my sworn duty to continue to provide an excellent mix of music in these trying times! …Now that I think of it, times aren’t all that trying… it was just some middle-aged loser from Dunkirk who was seemingly very bored. It sure was entertaining though. Anyway, in regards to the show, I’ve been fighting with iTunes to try and get the podcast listed but they keep sending me back a rejection notice. I’m editing the RSS feed as we speak and I should have all the kinks worked out by the end of this week, so look for the listing on iTunes this weekend.

RSS Feed + Blog

Posted in Announcements by geekmixtape on September 19th, 2007

As I mentioned earlier, due to the fact that PodBean has been failing hardcore in the ‘Uploading My Fucking Podcasts’ department, I have decided to move the podcast along with all its archives episodes off-site to a new webhost.

Because of this, the RSS feed that PodBean provides on this page will no longer work.  Therefore, since PodBean wants me to actually *pay* for rediculously stupid things such as the ability to link to an off-site RSS feed, this blog may not be around for much longer.

However, I’ve begun creating my own blog from scratch.  This will be hosted on www.ilivedigital.com and will enable me to have total control over everything having to do with this show (Frankly, I’m sick of the generic CSS templates and locked-out features of these ‘free’ blog-hosting sites).  More info will follow. Big props to my buddy Dave for providing the webspace!  Next time you’re up in Fredonia, I owe you a beer!

Episode 3.1 - 9/14/07

Posted in Shows by geekmixtape on September 18th, 2007

It’s been a while my loyal podcast subscribers, but I am back for a brand new season of the geekiest music show in Northern Chautauqua County. I decided to kick off the new season the right way with a healthy dose of brand-spanking new music from The Go! Team and Architecture in Helsinki …Oh, and a hell of a lot of chiptune music. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Over the summer I found a shit-ton of free chiptuney goodness over at www.8bitpeoples.com. If you enjoy the bleeps and bips as much as I do, I highly recommend snooping around that site for a while. You may have noticed that the Geek Mixtape intro/theme song is mysteriously absent. Well, that’s because I’m making a new one for Season 3 and it’s going to be awesome. It will be making its premiere next week. You may also notice that I’m no longer embedding the podcasts within the Podbean blog page. This is because transferring large files to Podbean has become damn near impossible. Fortunately, I’ve now acquired SERVER SPACE. I will now be able to archive ALL of the podcast episodes. This blog will still be updated for now, but expect to see a brand new blog page in the near future. Until then, I bid you adieu.

So I figured I’d end the semester with one last obnoxiously late podcast upload. This marks the end of the second season of Geek Mixtape. The show has really started to shape up over the course of this semester and I believe this is due in part to the encouragement of listeners. I’d like to thank every single soul who has tuned in this semester. While I’m at it, I’d also like to thank everyone who participated in the Transmedia Art Festival this weekend… Hopefully, the Fredonia Media Arts department will still be existence next year so that we can have yet another one of these festivals. Getting back to the show, Season 3 will begin in September… but until then, I bid you all adieu and wish you a delightful summer.
